June 19th, 2007 by blogmaster

I thought I was going to take a break, however, I found a JJ vs. Huntington video and had to share it

Maxpreps is hosting the video, which was filmed and edited over at MSG.
It also includes JJ vs. JD up in ‘Cuse.

Some of the moves Kevin Drew broke out in this game were simply mind boggling.

Be SURE to check it out.

Alright, enough text, click the screen shot to go to the video on maxpreps.com

Time Off

June 18th, 2007 by blogmaster

There won’t be many updates coming through this blog in the coming days and weeks.

I’ll be back around time for the Empire Games refreshed and ready to go.

We will have a whole slew of coverage, ranging from analysis to various forms of multimedia.

My bet is that I’ll be concentrating on roundball and lax.

In the meantime, feel free to discuss ANY of the scholastic squads competing in this year’s Empire State Games.

Until then, enjoy yourself.

John Jay vs. Huntington Slideshow

June 12th, 2007 by blogmaster

As many of you already know, we weren’t allowed to take video during the State Tournament.

However, Jim MacLean, our Sports Editor, took some brilliant pictures of the upset win over Huntington.

I was able to combine them together into a slideshow — which, of course, we hope you enjoy.

If you are interested in seeing another slideshow for either the Yorktown vs. West Islip game or John Jay vs. JD, just leave a comment and I’ll whip them up.

It is 7-6 JD at the half.

This same link will also have Genny vs. WI and SWR vs. Penn Yan

Pretty sweet feature they have going on upstate.

Enjoy.

I, for one, can’t believe they are trailing to JD. Thought this would be a walk in the park for the Indians.

  • 11-7 JD — Daly is killing them.
  • 12-8 JD — Douglass — JJ man-up 6:18 left in the game
  • 12-9 JD — Stockel
  • 12-10 JD — Douglass — JAY is refusing to lose (3 goal run)
  • 4:22 — Man up for JJ 12-10 JD
  • TO JD with 3:09 left
  • JD goal — 13-10 JJ 2:44 left ….

It’s over. JD wins 13-11.

Congrats to the Indians on a great season.

John Jay vs. Huntington Live Blog

June 7th, 2007 by blogmaster

Just about underway here …

I’ll have updates as they happen.

First Quarter

  • Jay wins the face-off …
  • 7:16 … JJ playing controlled offense … keeping the possession. 0-0
  • 6:52 … Rhamel Bratton with a laser — 1-0 Huntington
  • Wylde with a breakaway on JJ … SAVE Huntington — 1-0 Huntington –5:27
  • Drew off the post —3:47—1-0 Huntington
  • Schneidman all the way from midfield — 2:22 — 1-1
  • JJ is outplaying Huntington thus far. Keeping the time of possession and getting off a solid amount of shots. Easily could be 4-1 JJ. Huntington goalie is coming up with some nice saves. — 1-1 after quarter one.

Second Quarter

  • #22 Huntington with a goal — 11:31 — 2-1 Huntington
  • Stockel off a sweet spin move … 10:10 — 2-2
  • Olsen from Huntington off the face-off with the goal — 10:03 — 3-2 Huntington
  • Olsen again from in close — 9:28 — 4-2 Huntington
  • Olsen just cranked one off the crossbar and it went into the parking lot …
  • Olsen again from in close .. 7:01 — 5-2 (hat trick)
  • #7 with a ridiculous move and crank into the top shelf — 6:16 — 6-2 Huntington
  • 6-2 Huntington still — 3:11
  • Kevin Drew drives to the cage and puts home a bouncer — 1:28 — 6-3 Huntington

Halftime

  • Huntington has capitalized at the face-off circle. Bohlander has moved there in place of Granelli. Kevin Drew looks to be the most effective weapon on John Jay at this point. His speed seems to be too much for the Huntington D. He just missed a shot to close out the second quarter on a sweep. I’d look for him to continue to exploit this match-up in the second half. Surprisingly, the Bratton bros. are not the problem. Olsen, who is more of a role player, is doing most of the damage with 3 goals.

Third Quarter

  • #22 with the goal — 11:05 — Huntington 7-3
  • Man-up for JJ — 9:31
  • Stockel to Douglas — 8:47 — 7-4 Huntington
  • Bocklet gets crushed inside — GOAL –7:57– 7-5 Huntington
  • Olsen driving left pins the upper right corner — 6:59 — 8-5 Huntington
  • Harrison Silver is now taking f/o’s for JJ
  • 30 second man-up for Huntington — 5:28
  • EDIT — IT WAS ILLEGAL TEAM PERSONELL PARTICIPATION 30 SECONDS .. 4:02 LEFT — 8-5 HUNTINGTON — BRATTON WAS NOT CALLED FOR THE AFOREMENTIONED PENALTY. 3:02 LEFT — 8-5 HUNT.
  • Shamel Bratton with a goal — 2:22 — 9-5 Huntington. Bratton stared down the JJ sideline after the goal.
  • 9-5 Huntington after the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter

  • TO JJ 10:46 — 9-5 Huntington
  • Stockel with a shot ricochets out of bounds — Huntington ball –10:00 — 9-5 Huntington
  • Drew sweeps and cuts back to put home a bouncer with his left hand — 9:07 — 9-6 Huntington
  • Santere with a put back off a Bocklet shot — 7:42 — 9-7 Huntington
  • 30-second man-up for JJ — 7:28 — 9-7 Huntington
  • Huntington killed the penalty — 6:02 — 9-7 Huntington
  • Howell with a goal — 5:37 — 10-7 Huntington
  • Man-up for JJ one minute — 4:58 — 10-7 Huntington
  • JJ with a HIDDEN BALL TRICK! — TYLER GRANELLI — 4:48 — 10-8
  • DECANDIA WITH THE GOAL OFF A DREW SHOT — 3:52 — 10-9 Huntington
  • 3:07 .. still 10-9 Huntington with their possession.
  • JJ ball …Schneidman beats HUNTINGTON to the end line — 2:05 — 10-9 Huntington.
  • Douglass with an underhand pass to Drew on the crease … too high .. Huntington ball with 1:26 left .. 10-9 Hunt
  • TO JJ … :34 left — 10-9 Hunt
  • DREW WITH A GOAL! — 10-10 .. :26 left!
  • OVERTIME! Shot goes off Crosset’s helmet and Latino grabs the rebound.

OT

  • HUNT wins the face-off … TO Hunt … — 3:56 … 10-10
  • JJ ball on a loose ball push … 3:19 left
  • TO JJ 3:00 left
  • JJ ball with 1:47 left …
  • Hunt man-up .. 1 minute … :33
  • DOUBLE OVERTIME … 10-10

2 OT

  • 27 seconds left on Huntington penalty …
  • Latino with a save .. JJ ball … 3:25
  • TO JAY … 10-10 … 3:09 left .. 10-10
  • TO Huntington … 2:48 .. 10-10
  • Violation on HUNT ..JJ ball .. 2:28
  • JJ GOAL .. DouglasS goallllll goalllllllllllll goalllllllllllllllllll

Insomnia?

June 6th, 2007 by blogmaster

Can’t sleep?

Excitement a bit too much?

Yea, I feel that.

Feed your insomnia with a highlight video I came across on youtube. The video features highlights from ‘Town’s 2003 state title win over JD, the Bratton Bros. and West Genny. It’s done exceptionally well and the tunes are classic.

Enjoy.

Make Section I proud tomorrow.

Gulp … Long Island Time

June 5th, 2007 by blogmaster
Chrebet.jpg

Pictured above is none other than former New York Jet and Hofstra great, Wayne Chrebet.

Well, it looks as if John Jay and ‘Town are both ready to return to his old stomping grounds at Hofstra University this Thursday.

With both of them slated as underdogs, Wayne Chrebet seems to be the perfect symbol for a Section I upset.

So, let’s here it, how can each of these teams pull off the miraculous upset?

Is it finally time to break the losing streak which dates back to 2003 — when ‘Town defeated Shoreham-Wading River and then onward to win a State title?

Discuss these match-ups …

Class A

‘Town vs. West Islip

Class B

Jay vs. Huntington

Down Year?

June 5th, 2007 by blogmaster

After all the talk of ‘Town losing their edge this year, they have found themselves in the State semi-finals at Hofstra University to battle West Islip from Section 11 on June 7 @ 8:30

‘Town advanced after defeating Niskayuna 6-5 in the quarterfinals up at RPI.

The ‘Huskers last played in the semi-finals in ‘04. In that game they were defeated by Southside 13-7.

With Rye also winning — 15-3 over Johnstown — all three Section I teams will have a chance to represent on the Island come Thursday.

Godspeed …
